Georgian Oak and Elm Elbow Chair of Large Size
We love the form and scale of this chair which would have been made towards the end of the 18th century for a person of size and substance, who would also have had quite short legs!
The front legs appear to be at their original height, the rear ones have been slightly reduced owing to historic woodworm damage. The consequent “lean” makes the chair more comfortable to sit in.
Apart from the single plank of elm used for the seat, the chair is made entirely of very well figured oak. The warm honey colour is enhanced by good patina.
Circa 1780.
Dimensions:
100 cms high, 64 cms wide at the arms. The seat is 61 cms wide and 40 cms high.
