A splendid 18th century stick back armchair of large size and, unusually, made entirely of oak which has acquired a mellow surface of excellent colour and patina.
The curved cresting rail is slightly shaped at each end and surmounts a “lobster pot” comb above outswept arms supported by a pair of simply turned spindles.
The remarkable, gently dished seat is 3.5” thick, 26” wide, 16” deep and 14.5” high and supported on four spoke-shaved legs.
Historic metal repairs to the three-section arm bow.
Probably Welsh, circa 1750-1800.
104 cms high, 72 cms wide and 55 cms deep.
