A mid 18th century Welsh, clothes hanging press or wardrobe of practical size and attractive, low waisted proportions.
The broadly splayed cornice above a pair of unusual, arched top doors with conforming, arched fielded panels carved with scrolls, enclosing a milk-painted interior with a hanging rail. The lower part has a broad, finely detailed waist moulding above two tiers of drawers, on a single piece, shaped plinth. Old but later brassware. Cardiganshire, circa 1760-1780.

Dimensions:

126 cms wide at the cornice, 120 cms wide at the waist, 54 cms deep, 185.5 cms high.

The scrolls on the door panels are similar to ones we have come across on the door panels of a cwpwrdd deuddarn from Cardiganshire. The lower part with its five drawer arrangement in two tiers and the single-piece plinth with its oversized bracket feet are features often found on the low, Cardigan/Carmarthen “coffers” from the Teifi valley.
