“H L 1697”, the original, boldly carved initials and date on the front of an oak desk box, the punched ground also decorated with two lobed, interlaced and fleur-de-lis devices, with traces of original colouring. The ripple-figured, sloping lid with notched ends and moulded edge and fine surface and colour. English, circa 1697.
