Superbly Patinated Ash and Pine Low-Back Stick Chair

This wonderfully patinated chair has great charm. The steam bent pine cresting rail has an intense colour and great surface, with wonderfully worn, ridged ends or terminals, supported by seven ash sticks. The two front sticks are tenoned into the arm rail and the intermediate ones are slightly rebated and nailed onto the rear of the rail, a most unusual detail.
The 2 inch thick pine seat has a broad under chamfer and the four ash, splayed legs are tenoned through it.
The surface retains what appears to be an original reddish-stained varnish with an intense patina and great variation in colour.
Probably English, circa 1800.
Dimensions:
61 cms wide, 72 cms high, 39 cms deep. The seat is 37 cms high and 5 cms thick.
